A memorable evening at the University of Bradford celebrating the rich history of Muslim contributions to Britain’s railway industry and the remarkable legacy of the Hejaz Railway – the world’s first Muslim railway connecting pilgrims to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
We were honoured to welcome researcher Samina 📕🖋 Uddin from Muslims in Rail to open the Muslim Heritage Railway Exhibition, who also shared the opening of her new book, ‘Pioneering Muslims in Rail’. Attendees also saw the unveiling of a remarkable Hejaz Railway Mosque Wagon model by Andrew Petersen.
The event was attended by Turkish Consul, General Füsun Aramaz, who highlighted the importance of preserving and sharing this unique heritage. Guests also heard about the inspiring stories behind “Pioneers of Muslims in Rail”, based on interviews with real trailblazers in the industry.
A special highlight was the extraordinary recreation of the historic Mosque Coach of the Hejaz Railway , carefully researched, designed in CAD, 3D printed, hand-assembled, and finished using historical references from surviving railway vehicles along the original route, Julian Wynn.
