Muslims in Rail were delighted to take part in this year’s Eid on the Square, organised by the Mayor of London in the heart of Trafalgar Square.
It was a fantastic event, bringing together local residents, tourists and families from all backgrounds to enjoy the celebrations and community spirit on display, showcasing the very best of London’s diversity.
We were pleased to exhibit our popular Muslim Railway Heritage Exhibition, highlighting some of the earliest Muslims who served on Britain’s railways and London Underground. We also showcased our special Hejaz Railway exhibition, designed by Andrew Petersen, a timely reminder of this historic railway following the conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage.
We were especially honoured to be joined by several pioneers featured in our exhibition, including Maria Sheikh, the first Asian and Muslim woman to work for London Underground, alongside Osman Khatri and Abul Rahman. We were also delighted to welcome Deputy Mayor Debbie Weekes-Bernard to our stall to meet our pioneers and learn more about their contributions.
Our stall, delivered in partnership with AbdulMaalik Tailor , attracted hundreds of visitors throughout the day. We hope it inspired people of all ages to appreciate both our railway heritage and the ongoing contribution of railway professionals to public service across Britain.
